LAKELAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE
TURNS 40!
Welcome
to Lakeland Community College’s 40th Anniversary
web site, a place to look back in time. From Lakeland’s
simple beginnings in 1967, to a recent visit from
the President of the United States in 2005, Lakeland
has always been a dynamic and vibrant hub for learning.
Lakeland has become synonymous
with Lake County, training and educating the workforce
that is the lifeblood of the community. Many people
in Lake County know someone who went to, taught,
or worked at Lakeland.
Students come to Lakeland
from all walks of life - whether it's someone
taking basics here and then moving on to a four
year college,
or someone just interested in taking a photography class,
senior citizen classes, kids summer camps or even the wine
appreciation class, Lakeland fills the interests and needs
of the diverse community it serves.
Visitors to this site
are encouraged to send in their fondest memories
of Lakeland, view the photo gallery and the timeline
and even take a glimpse into what the year of 1967 was
like. There are also video interviews of special faculty
and staff
of the college, who retell their fond memories of the
college first hand.
Now, 40 years later and
over 1,100 credit courses offered, the college
continues to fulfill its mission
of providing
quality learning opportunities to meet the social and
economic needs of the community.
Come take a peek
back in time as we look ahead to a bright
future.
Opportunity starts at Lakeland.
