Implementing Converged Technologies Certificate
This Certificate consists of 21 credit hours of existing courses, six credit hours of CISCO networking courses and 15 credit hours of Information Technology courses. The Certificate is based on a shifting industry demand for more digital knowledge in implementing converged technologies: the delivery of data, voice and multimedia over the same converged network. This Certificate also helps students prepare for Cisco certification.
Students will be prepared for employment in the following fields: Wireless Communications Specialist, Information & Communication Technology Specialist, Home Technology for integrating home communication systems, Convergence Specialist supporting and integrating voice, data, and video for a business.
Job level is entry to mid-level technicians (install, maintain, repair hardware and software functionality). Job roles are technical support personnel, data and telecommunication resellers & solution providers, Sales and Support personnel, end-user companies merging IT and telecommunications personnel.
Administering Converged Technologies Certificate
Course content will provide the knowledge and skills needed in administering converged data systems with vendor neutral software applications. It provides students with the practical experience of administering a converged business communication system with data in a variety of transmissions, such as voice and multimedia from wired and wireless transmissions.
The converged data system will reside on Internet Web sites under Windows Office Communications Server working in conjunction with Windows SharePoint Services to provide updates to images, log files, and device files from voice and multimedia compliant devices. Students will also use third party software products in a Windows environment to analyze wireless transmissions and voice connection performance.
Topics covered are VoIP, IP Telephony, WPANs (IrDA, Bluetooth, UWB, Zigbee), Wireless LANs, WMANs (Freespace, Optics, WiMAX) and WWANs (Cellular phone, satellite) and RFIDs.
Students completing the certificate will be prepared for employment within the areas of Information & Communication Technology Specialist, Home Technology for integrating home communications systems, and Telecommunications Specialist supporting voice, data, and video for businesses.
