COURSE OFFERINGS FOR SUMMER 2008
ITON1740 Red Hat Linux Computing Essentials
This course provides students with basic knowledge of Red Hat Linux enterprise systems and skills in the use of basic commands, file systems, users and groups, bash shell, process management, text editors, network applications, searching and organizing data, and graphical applications. This course helps students prepare for Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT) certification. (3 Cr. Hrs.)
ITON1750 Red Hat Linux Core System Administration
This course provides students with the skills needed to be effective administrators of Red Hat Linux systems. Topics include mastering tasks such as hardware and device configuration, file system management, user administration, network configurations, kernel services, attaching new Linux systems to a corporate network, configuring the new systems for end-users, and troubleshooting. This course helps students prepare for Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT) certification. (3 Cr. Hrs.)

What computer knowledge or experience is required to take Red Hat Academy courses? The prerequisite is minimal – either ITIS1000 or ITIS1005, Lakeland’s Information Technology and Computer Science department’s introductory computer courses. If you have not taken these courses, you may contact an instructor for permission to register based on previous computer experience or other computer courses.
I have taken ITON1725 (formerly ISYS1805). Do I need to take both Red Hat Academy courses? Most topics in the first Red Hat Academy course were covered in the Linux+/generic ITON1725 (ISYS1805) course. You may register for ITON 1750, but it is highly recommended that you take both ITON 1740 and ITON 1750, since these are very in-depth courses. Contact your Linux instructor for more information.

What do I have to do to be admitted to Lakeland?: Please see: http://www.lakelandcc.edu/ADMISSIO/ADMISREG/ADMIINFO.HTM After you are admitted, you should meet with an academic counselor (http://www.lakelandcc.edu/ADMISSIO/COUNSEL/CC_HOME.HTM) to discuss a plan of study, including any necessary prerequisites.
How much will this cost?: Our current tuition costs are listed at: http://lakelandcc.edu/GENEINFO/TUITION.HTM.
How long will this take?: The degree programs are designed for two years of full time study. How long you will take depends on how many hours you can safely dedicate to study
What is the difference between a certificate and certification?: The certificate is an academic training program designed to prepare you in one specific skill set. The certification is a vendor-specific or vendor-neutral set of exams that show some degree of proficiency in a specific skill. The certification exams are not given by Lakeland faculty.
