Eligibility to take the real estate agent license exam is possible
after completion of Lakelands four pre-licensure courses. Students
may complete all four courses during one semester, or schedule classes
over a longer period of time. Flexible class schedules include convenient
eight week semester sessions and five-week summer sessions.

Estate. The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of

Q: What do I have to do to
become a licensed real estate associate in Ohio?
ANSWER:
1. You must be honest, truthful and of good reputation. 2. You must
be at least 18 years old. 3. You must be sponsored by an Ohio Broker.
4. You must not have been convicted of a felony or crime or moral turpitude,
adjudged by a court to have violated any civil rights laws regarding real estate
within the past two years or violated any rules of the Ohio Division of Real Estate.
If you have been found to have done so, you must have satisfied the Superintendent
that you will not violate such laws or rules again. 5. If you were born after
1950, you must have a high school diploma or its equivalent as recognized by the
Ohio Department of Education.
On or after August
2, 2001, you must successfully complete at an institute of higher education:
A.
Forty (40) hours of classroom instruction in real estate principles and practices.
B. Forty (40) hours of classroom instruction in Ohio real estate laws including
instruction in civil rights, housing discrimination and desegregation problems.
C. Twenty (20) hours of classroom instruction in real estate appraisal; and
D. Twenty (20) hours of classroom instruction in real estate finance.
The
above courses must be taken at an institution of higher education, such as Lakeland
Community College, which is defined as a school which actually awards a degree
in at least a two-year program (i.e. an associate degree). Lakeland Community
College's real estate curriculum is fully approved by the Ohio Department of Real
Estate. The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges
and Schools accredits Lakeland Community College.
Any
person who has not been licensed as a real estate salesperson or broker within
a four-year period immediately preceding his current application for the salesperson's
examination must have completed the above classroom instruction within a ten-year
period immediately preceding his/her current salesperson application.
Q: How quickly may I complete the required
real estate course work?
ANSWER: Lakeland students may
complete all four courses during one semester, or schedule classes over a longer

Q:
What about becoming a real property appraiser?
ANSWER: Appraisers must be licensed or certified to value real property in Ohio where
federal funds are involved for residential mortgages in excess of $250,000 and
commercial mortgages in excess of $1,000,000. Ohio is under a voluntary license/certification
program to conform to the Financial Institution Reform, Recovery & Enforcement
Act (FIRREA). As a practical matter, most users of appraisal services require
the appraiser to be licensed/certified. The

Is financial aid available?
ANSWER: Contact Lakeland's
Financial Office further information about scholarship opportunities. Additionally,
the Ohio Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing has an educational
fund that sponsors a Student Loan program.
Q:
What do I need to do in addition to completing the course work?
ANSWER:
After completion of prelicensure education and other requirements, you
must submit an application to the Ohio Division of Real Estate and Professional
Licensing BEFORE scheduling an examination. Application forms may be obtained
online at State
of Ohio Government Info and Services.
An application
fee of $49 (check payable to the Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing)
must accompany the application along with an official transcript verifying successful
completion of the required course work. (The application fee for the brokerage
application is $69 and the qualifications vary as well.)
Q: What documentation do I need to complete
my application?
ANSWER: A photocopy
(or official copy) of the completed educational requirements (your Lakeland transcript)
and application fee of $49 must accompany your application. Do not submit your
application until completion of all of the required real estate courses.
Q: Where do I mail my completed application? A: All real estate applications must be submitted
to the Columbus, OH office of the Ohio Division of Real Estate and Professional
Licensing at 77 South High Street, 20th Floor, Columbus, OH 43215-6133, telephone,
614/466-4100. Regardless of the location of your examination, the application
must be sent to the Columbus office.

What do I need to know about scheduling the exam?
ANSWER:
Once your application is processed and accepted, you will receive an
Examination of Eligibility Letter from Experior and a copy of the Real
Estate Candidate Information Bulletin. Prometric Testing Centers administers
the examinations.
When calling to schedule, candidates
are asked for specific information including the program name, their candidate
identification number, the name of the examination, and payment information. Refer
to the Exam Scheduling Worksheet on page 5 of the Real
Estate Candidate Bulletin. The required payment for examinations must be made
when calling to schedule an appointment, using either a major credit card or authorizing
payment by personal check. Fees are $49 for real estate salesperson (associate)
and broker exams and are nonrefundable. No cash or money orders will be accepted.

Q: What do I need to know about the day of the exam?
ANSWER:
You must arrive on time to the exam. One form of government issued photo
identification is required at the test site. A silent, simple (four-function,
non-printing, nonprogrammable) pocket calculator is permitted. Calculators with
alphanumeric keys are NOT permitted. There are no rest breaks during the exam.
