Lakeland Theatre and Lakeland Community College are delighted to present
Stephen Sondheim’s and Hugh Wheeler’s Tony Award winning Sweeney
Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, at Lakeland Community College's Performing
Arts Center. The musical runs for 10 performances February 6th through February
22, 2009.
Lakeland’s production features two of Cleveland’s most celebrated
actors, Dan Folino (Equus and Beauty and the Beast) as Sweeney Todd and Alison
Garrigan (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) as Mrs. Lovett. The show is directed
by Martin Friedman, Larry Goodpaster is the Musical Director and Trad A.
Burns is the set and lighting designer.
Victorian England is the setting for Sweeney Todd. Benjamin Barker is living
a simple life with his wife and daughter when the lust of a judge throws
their lives into chaos. The judge has Barker deported to Australia. Barker
returns to England, many years later, under the name of Sweeney Todd. With
revenge in his heart Sweeney seeks vengeance not just against those who hurt
him and his family, but also against some who are innocent of any crime.
Now a major film by Tim Burton, Sweeney Todd ran for over 550 performances
on Broadway and won 7 Tony Awards.
Lakeland Theatre’s production is a professional production of the complete
show as Sondheim and Wheeler originally wrote it.
Sweeney Todd opens on Friday, February 6 at 7:30 PM and runs three weekends.
Tickets are $13 for adults and $11 for seniors and $5 for students. Call

Pride & Prejudice
Dates: Friday, October 6, 2006 - Sunday, October
22, 2006
Lakeland
Theatre is once again delighted to present Jane Austen's
enduring romance, "Pride
and Prejudice" beginning October 6 through
October 22 at Lakeland Community College's Performing Arts Center.
Lakeland is remounting the production, following a successful
run two years ago. The novel is a perennial favorite
- and the play is also finding its way into the hearts
of both Jane Austen fans and everyone who likes a good
story well told.
Lakeland artistic director Martin Friedman is again
directing the play, using an adaptation written by Gate
Theatre artists James Maxwell and Alan Stanford.
This is a wonderful adaptation of a beloved Jane Austen
novel that is seldom seen on stage. Elizabeth duels with
her prejudice and Darcy with his pride; or is it the
other way around? Love trumps both pride and prejudice
in one of the truly great literary romances of all time.
The Maxwell/Stanford play has been produced at the Spoleto
Festival and The Guthrie Theater. Lakeland's previous
production was only the third in the United States.
The production features: Equity actor Mitchell Fields;
other prominent local actors including Dan Folino, Natalie
Green,
Douglass Collier, Sandra Kosevich Peck, and Rose Leininger;
and a terrific group of up-and-coming actors. The production
staff includes set and lights by Keith Nagy and costumes
by Craig Tucker and John Larger.
Pride and Prejudice opens Friday, October 6 at 8:00
p.m. and runs three weekends.
Thursday: Special Student Matinees. Tickets are $12
for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Call 440-525-7034
or 440-525-4774 for ticket information, group rates and

Lakeland Theatre is delighted to present the Cleveland premiere of an
adaptation of J.M.Barrie’s Peter Pan or the Boy Who Would Not Grow Up,
by Trevor Nunn and John Caird. The production will run July 8 through
July 24.
Nunn and Caird created this adaptation of Peter Pan for the Royal Shakespeare
Company in 1982, restoring a beloved British classic to much of its original
intent. It also ran at both the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National
Theatre of Great Britain 1998. Lakeland’s production will be only the
third theatre in the United States to mount this particular adaptation.
"This Peter Pan is wholly different from the Walt Disney production of the
1950’s or the musical version by Camden, Green and Styne," says director
Martin Friedman. "This is a straight play that retains the exuberance of
Barrie’s original story. It retains Peter - who flies but does not sing-
as well as Tinkerbelle and Hook. It also diminishes the role of the Indians.
Yet, it is more thoughtful than the musical, more specific to our time.
Come see a re-imagining of this timeless classic."
Martin Friedman directs this production which features Magdalyn Donnelly,
Brian Bowers, Mark Cipra, and Bob Keefe. The production includes lovely
Victorian sets and lights by Keith Nagy, costumes by Craig Tucker and John
Larger, sound by William Amato, choreography by Liz Flynn and fight choreography
by Kelly Elliot and Josh Brown.
Lakeland’s production of Peter Pan opens Friday, July 8 at 8:00pm and
runs three weekends at the Lakeland Performing Arts Center. Show dates
are Fridays
and Saturdays July 8-23 at 8:00 pm and Sundays July 10-24 at 7:30 pm.

The script is funny, sharp and surprisingly relevant to today’s political
scene. A likeable 'dumb blonde' type, Billie Dawn has been dragged
along to Washington by her tyrannical lover, the junkyard millionaire
Harry Brock. When Brock asks journalist Paul Verrall to educate her
in the ways and manners of the Washington elite, he gets more than
he bargained for. Verrall gives Billie an education in art, literature,
music and politics that sets her on a collision course with the corrupt
Brock and the powerful men he has in his pocket.

Noises Off Lakeland Community College Theater will present
Martin Frayn’s Noises Off beginning February 6, at 8:00 pm in the
Lakeland Performing Arts center.
Noises Off
is not one play but two: simultaneously a traditional sex farce, Nothing
On, and the backstage “drama” that develops during Nothing
On’s’ final rehearsal and tour. The two begin to interlock
as the characters make their exits from Nothing On only to find themselves
making entrances into an even worse nightmare that’s happening backstage.
At the disastrous final performance, the two plots can be kept separate
no longer, and coalesce into a single collective nervous breakdown.
Directed by Martin Friedman and produced by a professional
cast, Noises Off is a classic travesty by a Tony Award-winning playwright,
with sets and lights produced by Keith Nagy, costumes by Craig Tucker
and sound by Bill Amato.
Play dates are at 8:00 pm on February 6, 7, 13,
14, 20, and 21 and 2:00 pm on February 8 and 22. There is a special 7:00
pm show on Sunday, February 15.

The Imaginary Invalid By Moliére
Jan 31,Feb 1,2,7-9, 14-16, 2003
Moliers last play is a sparkling satire set in London
in 1899 about a perfectly healthy hypochondriac who insists his daughter
marry a physician to ensure a doctor will be near him at all times.
Our college production this semester is Moliére's
legendary play, THE IMAGINARY INVALID.
This was Moliére's last production. He played the role of the Invalid,
and died on the opening night in front of King Louis. What a comedy!
Our production is not set in the 1670's (as was
the original) but in London in 1899 (The Victorian Period). The costumes
are designed by the wonderful designer Alison Hernan with sets and lights
by Keith Nagy. It should be a beautiful show.
While the play is a comedy about a hypochondriac
it also makes many serious comments about the health care system (which
is remarkably like ours!)

When
the lights go out the farce begins. The action takes place almost
entirely during a power failure. The stage lights are blazing but
the characters are still in the dark. Inevitably things disintegrate
into hilarious chaos.
Black
Comedy uses wit, imagination and broad, physical humor to get its
audiences laughing. This production features fine professional and
community actors along with three wonderful student actors. Martin
Friedman directs and lights and sets by Keith Nagy. Peter Shaffer
worte such masterpieces as Equus, Amadeus and Lettice and Lovage.
February 2002
This engaging and pulsating
Pulitzer Prize winning play has not had a full-scale professional
production in Cleveland for at least fifteen years. Certainly one
of America's greatest plays, by the only United States playwright
ever awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, Long Day's Journey into
Night offers a searing examination of a family teetering on the brink
of disaster.
by Eugene O'Neill
Directedby Martin Friedman Featuring Mitchell Fields as James Tyrone
Lakeland Theatre will present
Long Day's Journey into Night at Lakeland Community College's Performing
Arts Center between February 1 and February 18, 2002 for a total of
nine performances. The Lakeland production of Long Day's Journey into
Night features prominent Equity actor Mitchell Fields as James Tyrone,
Mary Jane Nottage as Mary Tyrone, Andrew Narten as Jamie Tyrone and
Tim Coles as Edmund Tyrone. Dr. Martin Friedman directs this production
with sets and lights by Keith Nagy. Only O'Neill can make the harrowing
and the hilarious, genius and madness so much alike--the intensity
and difficulty of the roles make this seldom produced masterpiece
a feast for both the actor and the audience.
