Q What is changing?

A   Lakeland has joined the ranks of colleges nationwide in going paperless with its class schedule. To provide the most accurate class schedule information, the class schedule will only be published electronically.

Q Why is the schedule only available online?

A

TThe primary reason for this change is that the online schedule is updated in real time, whereas the printed schedule became quickly out of date. In fact, more than 1,500 changes occur between the time the paper class schedule goes to the printer and the first day of classes. Classes are added, become full and are unavailable, or have changes in date, time, location, or instructor. Having a printed schedule showing outdated information is frustrating and not doing students a service.

The online version provides the most up-to-date course information because class changes are viewed instantly. It also saves printing and paper costs, uses fewer resources and is better for our environment. Most other colleges have moved to an online class schedule years ago for these same reasons and have made the adjustment with no problems.

By having the most up-to-date class information, students should experience less frustration in planning their schedules. We appreciate your support in our efforts to serve you better and conserve resources.

Q What if I don’t have a computer or Internet access?

A   For those without a computer or Internet connection at home, you can use a computer here at the college or elsewhere to access the course schedule. Computers are available in the kiosks outside Financial Aid (A-1004), in the Library, or in any of the campus Computer Labs.

Q When can I view the online class schedule?

A   The spring 2011 class schedule is currently available for viewing only. Registration begins Nov. 29. For future semesters, check your myLakeland account frequently for announcements about when the online class schedules are available.

Q How can I use the online class schedule?

• To view expandable class descriptions and prerequisites
• To search by subject, campus, instructor, and schedule type

Q Where can I get the important dates and information that was printed in the class schedule?

A   All of the important dates and information that was printed in the class schedule is available at www.lakelandcc.edu. In addition, a new Enrollment Guide will provide essential information about college programs and services available to help you succeed. This guide will be significantly fewer pages and printed less frequently than the printed class schedule to save on printing and paper costs. The new Enrollment Guide will also be available online in an electronic format. The guide will be available in late November, prior to the start of registration.

Q How do I register for classes?

A   Use the online Schedule Viewer to identify the classes you want to take. Make note of the CRN number. You will use this number to register. You must clear any registration holds (e.g., missing transcripts, missing placement tests, unpaid fees) before you can register for classes. Register for classes online in myLakeland, in person at the Admissions Office in A-1002, or by phone at 440-525-7101 or toll free 1-800-589-8520.
