Graduation Requirements Policy

(A) All associate degrees (or arts, science, applied science and technical studies) require successful completion of at least 64 semester hours with a 2.0 minimum grade point average (GPA).  The student must have earned at least 20 credit hours at Lakeland Community College and must have been enrolled during the term in which he/she completed the degree program.

(C) Some programs of study may have additional program and/or grade point average requirements based upon accreditation standards.  The students must review the requirements of the specific degree program to determine if there are additional requirements.

(D) All students intending to graduate must file a petition in the Counseling office by the deadline established by the college.  (See graduation timeline for application deadlines listed below.)

Graduation Honors

  • Those who attain a cumulative GPA in the range of 3.75 to 3.89 are granted their degrees Magna Cum Laude.

In addition, students must complete at least 50 percent of all degree requirements (credit hours) at Lakeland Community College.

Application for Graduation

Students who intend to graduate must file an Application for Graduation form with the Counseling office by the deadline dates listed on the Academic Calendar

Application Deadlines -

Spring 2008 Commencement Ceremony Date :
Saturday, May 10, 2008

It is recommended that you meet with a Lakeland counselor to be sure that you have completed the requirements for your degree or certificate. You must submit an application to receive your diploma or certificate. There is a $25 application fee to receive a diploma or a $10 fee to receive a certificate. Applications are available in the Counseling Center - A-1027, and must be submitted by the appropriate deadline. Diplomas and certificates are not backdated. Commencement is held once every Spring during the month of May. Diplomas will be mailed approximately 4-6 weeks after each term. Certificate applicants will receive a letter to pick up their certificate approximately 4-6 weeks after each term.

A $25 graduation fee must be paid at the time of application. (diploma)

A $10 certicate fee must be paid at the time of application. (certificate)

Note: Certificate applicants must follow the same application deadlines. Certificate recipients/prospective recipients do not participate in commencement.

Caps and Gowns

A cap, gown and tassel are the official regalia that must be worn at commencement. The cost of your keepsake cap, gown and tassel is included in the $25 fee paid with your application for graduation. Students may pick up their caps and gowns at GradFest scheduled April 15 & 16. Caps and gowns will be available in the Bookstore after GradFest beginning April 17 through May 6 during regularly scheduled hours. The gown will need to be pressed with a cool iron. Graduates may keep their cap, gown and tassel.

Commencement Tickets for Guests

Special Needs

Graduates requiring special assistance to participate in the commencement ceremony should contact Student Activities office (440-525-7226) no later than Friday, April 25, 2008 to make special arrangements. Guests requiring special accommodation seating should notify a member of the commencement staff or request a campus police officer located outside the pavilion area for assistance. Guests requiring special accommodation seating should plan to arrive by 8 am in order to enter the pavilion before the general public seating starts at 8:30 am.

Photographer

The college has made arrangements with a professional photographer to take pictures of all graduates as they receive their diploma on stage.  The photographer will mail the proofs directly to each graduating student two to three weeks after commencement.

Diplomas

Graduates participating in commencement will receive a blank diploma cover.  Diplomas will be mailed within 4-6 weeks following final certification by the college.Graduates not participating in commencement can pick up a diploma cover in the Counseling office after commencement.


Severe Weather Plan

The Commencement Ceremony will be held outdoors rain or shine. In the event of severe and dangerous weather (tornado, electrical storm, or high winds), the ceremony will move into the Athletic & Fitness Center (AFC). Due to limited seating inside the AFC, each graduate may invite three (3) guests to view the ceremony in the main gym. These three guests will be identified by the blue wristbands provided. Additional guests with commencement tickets may view the ceremony via a live video feed in the auxiliary gym.

If severe weather is forecast, an announcement will be posted on www. lakelandcc.edu and the Lakeland Emergency Hotline at 440.525.7242. Please check these sources before traveling to campus.

Commencement Day

Candidates for graduation are to report to the Performing Arts Center in Building D not later than 8:30 a.m. graduation day. Candidates should arrive dressed in their cap and gown. At this time you will receive complete instructions regarding your participation in the ceremony and to line up for the academic procession.

Candidates for graduation will be called by tassel color to form a line for the academic procession in the following color order: White, Golden Yellow, Brown, Drab, Purple, Orange, Light Blue, Citron, Lilac, Green, Apricot, Maroon.

Once you are in the procession line, you cannot exit the line. The procession will start promptly at 9:30 a.m. from the Performing Arts Center to the outdoor pavilion. Candidates are not to carry anything in their hands during the procession. A secured room (C-1078) will be provided for storage of you r personal belongings during the ceremony.

Commencement programs will be placed on each chair in the graduates’ seating section.

NOTE: There is no dress rehearsal for graduates participating in the Commencement Ceremony.
