Tardigrades are known commonly as "water bears" because they can be found in water and possess long claw-like structures. They also have a lumbering gait. Of special interest to Cryobiologists, tardigrades can dessicate and survive for hundreds of years. They have been brought back to life from very old herbarium specimens.
