Serving Campus 24/7

The Lakeland Community College campus police department exists to protect and serve the college community with fairness, respect, and compassion.

We are committed to the anticipation and prevention of crime and the protection of life and property; preservation of peace, order, and safety; enforcement of federal and state laws and college ordinances; safeguarding of constitutional guarantees; and support of the institution's various missions within the Lake County Community College District.

We have come to believe that at Lakeland Community College, "security" is a process coordinated by the campus police that requires commitment and involvement on the part of the entire college community. We are dedicated to the enhancement of the quality of life on the Lakeland campus and will attempt to fulfill this important obligation by working as a team to effectively implement the concept of community-oriented policing within this complex environment.

Lakeland's police department bears primary responsibility for safety on campus. Operating as an autonomous police district since 1975, Lakeland police officers are trained in law enforcement, fire safety, first aid, and hazardous materials disposal, and exercise full police powers. The campus police department operates a 24-hour emergency communications and dispatch center linked directly to a regional, statewide, and national communications system. Campus police communications officers continuously monitor security cameras and alarm systems, and handle walk-in clients at the dispatch desk. The police department is also directly involved in other aspects of campus safety. Police personnel conduct regular crime prevention workshops with various groups on campus.

In November 2016, the Lakeland Community College Police Department joined over 450 Ohio law enforcement agencies who have received certification by the Ohio Collaborative. The Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board was created from Executive Order 2015-04K, signed by Governor Kasich in April 2015. Comprised of a 12-person panel of law enforcement experts and community leaders, the collaborative establishes state standards regarding agency policies and operations. These standards cover a broad spectrum of topics within law enforcement, from communications centers to use of force policies. Fire Extinguishers and Their Proper Use

Oliver Richard One of my favorite things about Lakeland is the CCP program, which is a great opportunity to earn college credit so that I'm able to save time and money in the future. It was great that I was able to earn two degrees while still in high school, so I can earn my bachelor's degree in 2 years. Oliver Richard College Credit Plus

Ariana Oroz I loved coming to class to learn about real-life cases that my professors have experienced and the opportunity to go through mock crime scene scenarios. Especially with the recent development of the criminal justice program, I enjoyed "investigating" a "residence", simulating a grave excavation, and lifting fingerprints. It is a bittersweet moment that I will be graduating. Ariana Oroz Criminal Justice
