Reference librarians are available in person, by phone and online to assist with research, off-campus access, instructions on using the OhioLINK databases, and finding quality information on the Internet.

Circulation Services

The circulation desk is located directly across from the main entrance of the library. Circulation staff check out and check in materials as well as maintain the general organization and distribution of a variety of library holdings.

  1. Items located in either the Lakeland circulating collection, or from OhioLINK or SearchOhio may be requested online.
  2. Items may be picked up at Curbside Pickup in the driveway near H Building or delivered to the Holden University Center.
  3. Items may be returned at the drop boxes inside the entrance to A Building, entrance to T Building, at the intersection of T and E Buildings, or to the receptionist at the Holden University Center.

The library endorses the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, which supports access to information and opposes censorship, labeling and restricting user's access to information of all kinds.

Library Copyright Policy

Copyright refers to the legal possession of intellectual property whether online or in print. Lakeland Community College Library adheres to the provisions of the U.S. Copyright Law at Title 17, U.S. Code.

Lakeland's Academic Honesty Policy

Honesty, as the basic component of trust, is essential to both individual and institutional integrity. With this premise in mind, Lakeland Community College has set forth certain behaviors as violating academic honesty, and thus potentially diminishing Lakeland's integrity, reputation for academic quality and ability to function as an academic community. The institution's faculty and administration, therefore, regard academic dishonesty as a serious offense.

Established as violations of academic honesty at Lakeland Community College are cheating and facilitating cheating, plagiarism and falsification in academic research. Policies dealing with violations of academic honesty may be obtained from the Student Development Department, as well as this PDF version of the Student Handbook.

Library Use and User Conduct

Quiet Study

The library common areas are not quiet study areas. The library has one quiet study room, which is located behind the library instruction room at the northwest corner of the library.

Food, Drink, Tobacco Products, Cell Phones, etc.:

Help keep the library clean.

  • Keep all drinks covered and dispose of containers properly
  • All tobacco products are prohibited in the library
  • Respect others - keep noise to a minimum
  • Cell phone use in the library can be distracting. If you must use your cell phone, keep your noise to a minimum. Disruptive cell phone usage is not permitted, and noisy users will be asked to take their calls outside.

Code of Conduct

Lakeland Library users will to adhere to the Student Conduct Code as published in the Lakeland Community College Student Handbook.

Loan Policy: Borrowing Materials

All Lakeland Library users are responsible for materials checked out on their library account. Return of materials is expected by the due date. Failure to return materials may result in blocking of class registration and/or suspension of library privileges. Library users are responsible for all damage, replacement and repair fees for any materials they check out. Please present your Lakeland ID card to check out materials.

  • Lakeland students may check out a total of 35 items (Lakeland, Kirtland, OhioLINK and SearchOhio items combined) for a three week loan period.
  • Faculty may check out 100 items from the Lakeland Library and other participating libraries.

Materials may be renewed up to 6 times if no requests have been placed on the materials. Notices concerning overdue materials are sent via email as a courtesy. Library users are responsible for the prompt return of materials borrowed.


  • Overdue Lakeland Library materials are $0.10 per day per item. Replacement Charges: cost of item
  • Overdue Kirtland Library materials are $0.10 per day per item. Replacement Charges: cost of item
  • Overdue OhioLINK materials are $0.50 per day per item. Replacement Charges: $125.00 per item
  • Overdue Reserve materials are $1.00 per hour per item.
  • Overdue SearchOhio materials are $0.50 per day per item. Replacement Charges: $125.00 per item

Refunds for lost materials may be issued for Lakeland Library, Kirtland Library, interlibrary loan, OhioLINK and SearchOhio materials providing the following criteria are met:

  • Materials are returned within six (6) months of payment with the original receipt from the Lakeland Library.
  • Materials must be free of mold, stains, odors, missing pages or damage of any kind.
  • The call number, ownership stamps, barcodes, and covers must be intact.

The condition of the material will be evaluated by the Library Technician in consultation with the Acquisitions Coordinator. Reference Librarians will determine if the materials will be returned to the collection.

In the case of OhioLINK, SearchOhio or interlibrary loan materials, the Interlibrary Loan Specialist will contact the owning institution for evaluation of materials to be returned to that institution's collection.

Any outstanding fines or fees are deducted from the refund amount. Approved refunds, with proper forms, are forwarded to the library offices and processed through the Lakeland Controller's Office.

Library users, having met all outstanding obligations to the college, must request a refund check for the remaining amount at the Assistant Controller's Office (440.525-7051). Inquiries on the status of a refund should be directed to the Assistant Controller's Office.

Unsupervised Children

The Lakeland Library welcomes children who are accompanied and supervised by a parent or adult guardian. For the safety of the children, it is the responsibility of the parent or adult caregiver to supervise their children at all times. Lakeland Library assumes no responsibility for the security, safety, or supervision of children left unattended. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult at all times. In the event that a child under 14 is left unattended, Campus Police will be notified.
