Curriculum & Transfer
Students must be admitted to the Dental Hygiene program to enroll in dental hygiene courses unless specific permission is granted by the program director.
Students completing the dental hygiene program in Ohio take a National Board Dental Hygiene Examination, and a Commission on Dental Competency Assessments examination. Once these examinations have been successfully achieved, application can be made for licensure with the State Dental Board. Since the inception of the dental hygiene program, the vast majority of students choosing to practice dental hygiene have passed these exams.
After completing one of the above admission options and while waiting for entrance into the program, it is highly recommended that students use this time to complete any of the following courses:
- BIOL 2220 Anatomy and Physiology II
- BIOL 2700 Microbiology
- ENG 1110/1111 English Composition I
- ENGL 1120 English Composition II
- MATH 1330 or higher
- PSYC 1500 Introduction to Psychology
- SOCY 1150 Principles of Sociology
- COMM 1050 Public Speaking
or COMM 1150 Effective Interpersonal Communications
