Lakeland Community College is dedicated to providing a healthy, comfortable and productive working and learning environment for all members of the college community. Therefore, smoking and/or the use of tobacco is prohibited throughout college-owned or leased buildings and/or vehicles.
"Smoking" is defined as inhaling, exhaling, burning or carrying any lighted or heated cigar, cigarette, or pipe, or any other lighted or heated tobacco or plant product intended or inhalation, including hookahs and marijuana, whether natural or synthetic, in any manner or in any form. "Smoking" also includes the use of an electronic smoking device which creates an aerosol or vapor, in any manner or in any form, or the use of any oral smoking device for the purpose of circumventing the prohibition of smoking in this policy.
"Tobacco" is defined as all tobacco-derived or containing products, including and not limited to, cigarettes (e.g., clove, bidis, kreteks), electronic cigarettes, cigars, and cigarillos, hookah smoked products, pipes, oral tobacco (e.g., spit and spitless, smokeless, chew, snuff) and nasal tobacco (e.g., snus). It also includes any product intended to mimic tobacco products, contain tobacco flavoring, or deliver nicotine other than via a personal smokeless application for the purpose of cessation.
In compliance with Ohio Revised Code 3794, the College will: 1) prohibit the use of products that create tobacco smoke in areas immediately adjacent to the ingress or egress of its building or through windows, ventilation systems or other means; 2) conspicuously post ‘no smoking' signs at entrances; and 3) remove ashtrays and other receptacles for disposing of smoking materials from any area where smoking is prohibited.
